Extensively tested the Doomguard...
Hi Fellow Warlocks.
I have the doomguard for 3 days now and I'd like to share my experience with you.
First of all a Doomguard can be kept indefinitely.
The longest time I ever had it was 2,5 hours in burning steppes and 1,5 hours in sunken temple instance.
The doomguard is a pain to summon. Usually takes 5-10 high level mobs until it spawns one. Seldom more.
Also lower level mobs like level 30 yetis seem to spawn 1 every 20 kills.
When the doomguard spawns it instantly aggro you and you can cast Curse Of Shadows + Enslave. In That procedure he takes away around 30% of your HP in Damage and you might be crippled as well for some time.
Once you have your doomguard it breaks every 5-10 minutes which is not very bad, because you can instantly banish him for later use and kill the mobs you where on in peace.
After banish breaks cast curse of shadows and enslave him. This time he wont be able to damage you much.
After the thirt time you enslaved him I suggest a 3-in-a-row-banish so his "getting immune to enslave" thingy gets reset.
This way you can keep your doomguard indefinitely.
Ok so much for the enslavement part (which applies 1:1 for the Infernal as well)
Now for the practical use of him. The Doomguard is a very potent Tank/DPS dealer and can be sicken on a larger group of elite mobs.
My DPS counter instantly jumps to 700dps when he attacks and I havent even cast a single spell.
He draws a huge amount of aggro and lets me cast the full arsenal of damage on a mob. Usually i get over 500dps sustained while having a doomguard as pet.
Having a Doomguard is like having a pet that tanks double as good as the voidwalker has double as much damage as the succubus and CC spells that are deadly (cripple and high damage warstomp)
Also the rain of fire he has is usefull and makes 200 damage per sec (my rain of fire does 220 damage) so you get a neat doublerain of fire of 420 dps on every mob in range (while the doomy still holds aggro)
Doomy seems to be way more effective in groups since you have healers who can shield you when doomy breaks. The party was never in danger since I can banish him almost instantly after he breaks.
One drawback is you need to be much more focused than normal and need to monitor your doomy closely so ya can take him back as quick as possible.
A re-ensvale usually takes 35 seconds (1x banish + 1x curse of shadows + 1x enslave)
after every third enslave ya need to banish him for 1.5 minutes so every third enslave takes something less than 2 minutes.
Those times seem to be huge downtimes at first, but compared at the speed you run through Instances filled with elites you safe a lot time with doomy.
I also use it solo when going on farming mobs or collect minerals like thorium. Theres always horde around and people think twice before attacking you.
Its also VERY potent in PvP and makes Rogue/warrior/Hunter/pally fights easy as hell. While crippled they run like snakes and have their attack speed so greatly decreased that they cannot win.
The warstomp adds neat additional damage and interrupts any casters spells.
Remember... as a level 60 warlock I have a difficult time killing the doomguard myself.. tried it a few times and I survive with very low hp left.
So in PvP its like you getting ganked by a player while you fight a level 55 elite mob solo.
I never lost a PvP fight while having doomy out so I guess its a very unfair advatage you have over others.
Overall to say the Doomy is a neat pet but a pain to summon. Often takes 15 minutes to get one out and you have a much harder time to keep him. needs to be focused all the time.
Then you need to kill lots of mobs to sustain shard creation.
My wish would be the enslave time will be increased or the chance it breaks decreased.
The initial summoning pain is already a challenge... try NOT willing a mob for 1 minute :-/
I hope this little report explains some of the questions you might had about doomy.
Heres a neat screenshot of doomy from the perspective of a horde hunter in a PvP Raid:
